Chuck Palahniuk, fanatics and the Negative Jackass Guy stray dog theory.

This is my first post, well here on Word Press anyway. I am going to just start talking about things that are on my mind and see what happens.

Earlier I was stumbling with Stumble Upon and came across a semi interesting interview with Chuck Palahniuk. For those of you who don’t know who Palahniuk is he wrote the novel Fight Club. If you don’t know what Fight Club is, well, then I can’t help you. (Besides the first rule is never talk about Fight Club)

Actually it was more of a question and answer session with the lazy interviewer asking 15 questions posed (e-mailed I think) by fans of his work. I like Palahniuk’s stuff. It’s dark and its quirky, and it is anything but normal. But I concede it is not for everyone.

Anyway, the questions I thought were lame and he answered them as best he could, and no interesting revelations were garnered by having read the article. Which is too bad.

And then I started reading the comments attached to the end of the article. And all kinds of things were going through my mind.

1. There are some pretty cool Palahniuk fan’s out there that have some very interesting opinions.
2. Why does every comment thread have to have the negative jackass guy.
3. Why do seemingly intelligent people allow themselves to be baited by negative jackass guy. Every time you address negative jackass guy you are just feeding his need for attention. It’s the stray dog theory, if you feed him once you will never get rid of him.
4. Why do so many threads have the person who simply must use the word “fuck” at least 5 times in every comment. And don’t get me wrong, it’s probably one of my top 5 favorite words in the English language.
5. If you really HATE Chuck Palahniuk, then why have you read every one of his FUCKING books? (Sorry, couldn’t resist that.)
6. If you really like the guy, and want to shower praise upon him, have the respect to actually type out his name. Quit being so damned lazy. He’s not CP, and he’s definitely not C-Pah. And if you are such a huge fan, then learn to spell his name correctly.
7. Learn the difference between bad spelling and a type-o. If someone types dgos instead of dogs don’t make the easy “What’s a dgos you moron?” comment. Instead say “Learn to type moron!”.
8. Telling people in a comment thread that you are going to kick their ass is beyond stupidity.
9. Don’t profess your amazing hacking skills and how you are going to screw up some ones life.

I am sure I forgot some, but those who “get it” know what I mean and I would love to hear your thoughts along the same lines.
