Kill Bill Vol. I

“I take your fucking head.”

Lucy Liu as Oren Ishii in Kill Bill Vol. 1

Why this is a great diatribe:

In perusing the reviews of this film one thing became abundantly clear. People either love it, or hate it. And it all comes down to violence. This movie loses more limbs in one scene, than the Brazilian rain forest loses in a week. But lets face it. It’s Quentin Tarantino making a revenge movie. Do you expect people to get hugged to death?

I think every major character has at least one good diatribe in this move. They’ve been wronged. Diatribe. They are going to wrong somebody. Diatribe. This is why you shouldn’t kill me. Diatribe. I don’t blame you for killing me. Diatribe. EVERYONE has a chip on their shoulder and knows how to express it in ranting bloody visages.

Most of it is quite predictable, but that’s intentional. It’s a spaghetti western, Japanese martial arts, B-movie on Monster Growth Hormone.

This scene is the obligational, prove just how much of a bad ass the bad guy is scene. Complete with the obligational overuse of the word fuck and a body that sprays more blood in 3 seconds, than a human body could possibly have. All done by Lucy Liu, whom I think is cute as a bunny.

The diatribe:

O-Ren Ishii: [after she cuts off Tanaka's head, in Japanese] So you all will know the seriousness of my warning, I shall say this in English.
O-Ren Ishii: [in English] As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you’re unconvinced that a particular plan of action I’ve decided is the wisest, tell me so, but allow me to convince you and I promise you right here and now, no subject will ever be taboo. Except, of course, the subject that was just under discussion. The price you pay for bringing up either my Chinese or American heritage as a negative is… I collect your fucking head. Just like this fucker here. Now, if any of you sons of bitches got anything else to say, now’s the fucking time!
[pause]
O-Ren Ishii: I didn’t think so.
O-Ren Ishii: [calmly, in Japanese] Gentlemen, this meeting is adjourned.
